If you care, know they'll listen is a project which commenced during a visit to Canada's East Coast, where I landed in my Mom's new home for the first time. At Melmerby Beach we exchanged sentiments & collected shells buried in the sand——this was our first time alone since leaving her nest 4 years ago.
A piece of me lives inside each shell; a relationship established when they came home. They spoke first as 24 shells before awakening ears, having been a passive participant in our earlier conversation. That afternoon I pierced them as my own body, now their own. Today these bodies are adorned with 925 sterling silver & shades of mohair yarn, as I am per diem, requiring semi-regular maintenance to keep their lustre, their life.
They are a sister project to the hard-copy of Oligarchy & Persimmons, sharing kin materials & depicting an unpierced shell on page 311. All 24 shells have been displayed at the shows 1355, Adornment & Work Identified, coming anew from a prior iteration. 2023-2025.
