Clutter is a land-based zine inspired by a growing breadclip collection & the alley trails of Fairview; my old neighbourhood in Vancouver BC. The theme of excess reminded me of the furniture & misc objects deposited in the alley; but also the philosophy of the Buy Nothing group on Facebook; a neighbourhood project focused on gifting & exchanging.

Take a look.

The style developed from studies in my sketchbook using a black chisel marker. At first, these consisted of my cat Bruce, hence his appearance on the care cards. As I began to sketch objects from the Facebook group, the pages appeared themselves. Organized by date, I documented the newest additions from the group; the last page features my breadclip collection, which was given away through the gifting of this zine.

One the cover is a scribbled-over map of the city, framing Fairview in the center of this narrative. These scribbles appear on the inside cover, next to a list of the member names & agreements of the group in fineprint [as of February 2022].

Originally, 10 zines were printed & distributed among the Buy Nothing group. These copies were printed using a Risograph on locally sourced Japanese bogus paper--hand-bound with thread. Each one has been packed into a cellophane bag & sealed with a breadclip to resemble a loaf. A care card with context is included with "Clutter", pictured above. For my solo exhibit "1355" at Slice of Life Gallery, 10 additional copies were resurrected.
