Bruce Wayne's whiskers, coffee grounds, russian birch, satin fabric, thread

I always believed it was good luck to find a cat whisker, the same kind of myth as wishing on a fallen eyelash. As a child, I would prick myself with them lightly, to test their strength.

For one year I collected my cat [Bruce Wayne's] whiskers whenever they appeared, totaling 36. This habit developed after finding the first in our new apartment, not wanting to throw them away in case the luck erased. They were stowed in a vacant drawer of a desk we recieved for heavy wood carved with lion feet. Naturally, cat whiskers are quite pointy & firmer than a human hair, both composed of keratin, with a regrowth cycle of around two to three months. By applying ample pressure, cat whiskers can pierce skin similar to a sewing needle.

The idea of fabricating a pin cushion came. One that resembled the wooden-footed furniture in our home & of Bruce himself, which could display these sheddings. Traditional pin cushions were stuffed with materials around the house, today commonly utilizing emery for its sharpening properties. Hair was used for this as well. At the center of the cushion is a small pouch stuffed with dried coffee grounds, a material offering good grit & weight. Another layer of the fabric is tightly wrapped around & embedded in the stand. 2025.
